The 2009 McAlester Scottish Rite Fine Art Exhibition will be hosted by the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in McAlester, Oklahoma.

Located in downtown McAlester, the Masonic Center is hosting an opening  reception, in its almost 7,000 square foot Lobby and

Elmer Hale Dining Room, for artists, collectors, the public and the press on

The gateway to many historical and recreational attractions of southeastern Oklahoma, McAlester, is located next to

Lake Eufaula and is the home to one of the most beautiful Masonic Temples in the United States.

 

Our goal is to assemble the finest display of national fine art in Oklahoma. The focus in the jurying process will be to select paintings that show the highest quality in draftsmanship, color, and composition, emphasizing a diversity in style and subject matter.

The total awards will be approximately $10,000 and medals.

 

 

ENTRY INFORMATION

 

FINAL ACCEPTANCE OF ALL ENTRIES:  Friday January 2, 2009

                

Please note: FedEx does not deliver to a post office box. Use the U. S. Postal Service to deliver your entry forms. Use a No. 10 size Envelope.

DO NOT request a signature by receiver.

 

Open to ALL artists, oil, water media, pastel, graphics and sculpture

 

    •Painting of original concept and design only

    •Entries should be of current work

    •Canvas size: longest dimension not to exceed 40” - Smallest dimension not smaller than 11”X14”

    •Sculptures not larger than 24" x 24"

    •Painting must be framed and wired for hanging

    •Maximum entries two (2).  However, only one (1) painting will be accepted

    •The artist retains copyright to their image(s). However, accepted images do become part of the McAlester Scottish Rite         

    archives & may be used for future Scottish Rite event promotion.

    •Print large or type on entry form and slide(s)    No handwriting please. Use first and last name only

 

Submissions – Deadline Friday, January 2, 2009

 

    Electronic applications will be accepted beginning Wednesday, October 1 through Monday, January 2, 2009. Images should be a width

        of 1400 pixels for landscape images (wide images) and a height of 1400 pixels for portrait images (tall images).  

 

    •Hardcopy, mailed applications with slide submittals only will be accepted  if received in the McAlester Scottish Rite post office box

        on or before January 2, 2009. (An additional $15.00 charge over and above the entry fee will apply.) Mail slides of your unframed

        paintings, entry fee and entry and notification forms, together with a stamped, self-addressed business size envelope

       (4 –1/8” X 9-1/2”).  Print clearly on slides: your name, title of painting, size, and price. Place a red dot on the upper right front

        corner of slides. Declined slides will be returned.  Slides will be scanned and included in the on-line jurying process.   Do not

       paperclip slides to your entry. Send entry in a business size No. 10 envelope. DO NOT request a signature by receiver. 

 

Jurying Fees

        The Jurying Fee for electronic entries is as follows:

            •One entry is $20.00 or 30.00 for two entries.

            •Only one painting will be accepted. 

            •Electronic payment may be made by credit card.

            •No e-checks will be accepted.

            •Jurying fees for online submission may also be paid by check if received by January 2, 2009.  

 

Sales Commission

Sales commission of 25% is required by the Scottish Rite for all paintings and sculptings sold. Please take this into consideration

when setting your prices. All work that is submitted must be fore sale. NO NFS. 

 

Delivery and return of accepted work

 

Local and out-of-town artists paintings must arrive at the Masonic Center NO LATER than Monday, March 2, 2009.

Out-of-Town artists, please ship to:

Local artists, please deliver uncrated paintings during regular Masonic Center hours.    

 

Handling Fee  

Out of town artists must include a $15.00 check, payable to the McAlester Scottish Rite to cover the expense of uncrating, storage of crates, re-crating and contacting your shipper for return. In a separate envelope, either include a check made payable to McAlester Scottish Rite, to cover the entire cost of return shipping, or include the appropriate shipping label with your personal FedEx or UPS account info.

 

Please include separate checks for jurying fee and crating costs.

 

(Shipments from OUTSIDE the United States must be shipped “FREE DOMICILE” or they will not be accepted.)

 

 

LIABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The McAlester Scottish Rite Masons and the Scottish Rite Masonic Center of McAlester will not be responsible for loss or damage of any artwork, no matter what the cause. By submitting artwork to this exhibition, each artist will be deemed to have concurred with this agreement. 

 

Artists pay for shipping and insurance both ways. We suggest that you provide insurance to cover the full value of the artwork while in transit. Shipments from outside the United States must be shipped “FREE DOMICILE” or they will not be accepted.  

 

Christine Verner, Show Chairperson, will serve as chairman of the Jurying Committee consisting of three Master Artists.  The results of the jurying will be final.  No refund of entry fee or unaccepted slides. Participants will be notified of the juror’s selection.
